SANITARY PAD DISTRIBUTION – TESTIMONIES of GIRLS

A few girls shared their GRATITUDE for the TREMENDOUS IMPACT that the donation of sanitary pads has had on their lives:

1.  ABLE TO ATTEND SCHOOL during their period 
2.  NO MORE STRESS about gathering materials before their period i.e old cloths, newspapers, etc.
3.  MUCH MORE CONFIDENCE – Teasing from boys has stopped.

A small donation goes a long way in the life of a young girl!

STATISTICS SHOW
SIGNIFICANT IMPACT

The leadership team of Shakan Mission Uganda met with the Headmistress, Head Teachers, and the Deputy of Education for Kivubuka Primary School (located next door to the Shakan Mission Center). The stories they told of the girls’ changed lives are backed up by the statistics they tracked since Shakan has been providing sanitary pads in February 2023.  These statistics were provided on November 13, 2024.

NUMBER OF GIRLS USING SANITARY PADS
Before Shakan Distribution – 5.6% of the girls used sanitary pads (newspapers, old cloths, and banana leaves were used instead).
After Shakan Distribution – 100% of the girls are using sanitary pads.

ABSENTEEISM RATE DURING MENSTRUATION
2022 – 75% out of 97 girls
2023 – 5% out of 107 girls
2024 – 5% out of 121 girls

ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE SINCE PAD DISTRIBUTION
22% increase in passing the National Exams
