Birthing of Shakan Mission

Roseann “Rosie” Dennerlein
Founder, Former President & Executive Director
Roseann “Rosie” Dennerlein lived a life marked by deep faith, compassion, and a calling to serve others. From a young age, she carried a desire to uplift and empower those around her, a passion that continued throughout her 30-year career as a Counselor for Students with Disabilities at Northwestern Connecticut Community College.
Following her early retirement in 2014, Rosie stepped more fully into ministry work, founding Oils of Shakan, LLC. Through this work, she developed and taught aromatherapy from a biblical perspective, blending practical care with spiritual encouragement in a way that was uniquely her own.
Rosie’s first trip to Jinja, Uganda in 2019 became a defining moment. During that visit, she trained over 100 women from local community savings groups to create mosquito repellent as a means of preventing malaria. More than that, she witnessed firsthand the resilience, sacrifice, and hope of the women she met. That experience stirred something deeper, leading to the founding of AWEC (Arise Women Empowerment Center – Africa) and ultimately shaping the vision for what would become Shakan Global Mission.
In obedience to the Lord’s leading, Rosie went on to purchase land in Uganda for the Shakan Global Mission Center, laying the foundation for a ministry focused on spiritual growth, education, economic empowerment, and holistic health. She officially founded Shakan Global Mission LLC in the United States in February 2022 and later became Co-Founder of Shakan Mission Uganda, creating a bridge between cultures and a sustainable model for serving vulnerable communities.
Rosie’s leadership was rooted in prayer and guided by her unwavering commitment to Christ. She lived out the words of Matthew 28:10, encouraging others to go, to serve, and to trust God fully. Through her faith and obedience, countless lives were impacted, particularly in Jinja, Uganda, where her presence and vision helped strengthen families and communities.
On February 26, 2026, Rosie went home to be with the Lord following a tragic and unexpected car accident. While her passing has left a deep void, her legacy continues through the mission she faithfully built. She was not only a leader, but also a friend, mentor, and sister in Christ to many.
Rosie’s life was a testament to what it looks like to follow God’s calling with courage and humility. The work she began continues, carried forward by those who were inspired by her faith, her love for others, and her unwavering belief that lives can be transformed through Christ.
“Thanks be to God, who leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.”
— 2 Corinthians 2:14

Mariam Namusabi
Director of AWEC-Africa
Mariam has played a vital role in the birthing of Shakan Global Mission.
Mariam’s ten-year career as a banker combined with a heart for empowering vulnerable women led her to start women’s savings groups in 2017.
In September 2019, Mariam took a bold leap of faith as a single mother of 3 children. She resigned from her position as a banker and followed God’s call for full time ministry. A mutual friend introduced Mariam to Rosie at this time.
Since the Fall of 2019, there has been exponential growth of women who joined 5 different savings groups that Mariam oversees.
She keeps active with various projects all aimed at empowering women. These include group businesses to make books, bricks, and to provide catering services. Mariam has taken the first steps toward providing Microloans by becoming a registered SACCO (Savings And Credit Cooperative).
Small beginnings blossomed into Arise Women Empowerment Center-Africa (AWEC), a Non-Profit Organization (NGO) in 2021.
AWEC has provided a platform for teams of short-term mission workers to come to the Shakan Global Mission Guest House to serve women, children, and families.
Together, AWEC and Shakan Global continue to be God’s vessels for cultivating thriving households and communities.

Pastor Robert Olwenyi
Spiritual Advisor
At a young age, Pastor Robert embraced Jesus as Lord and Savior after witnessing a radical healing miracle with his uncle.
Robert grew in his relationship with Christ until his early teenage years, where he switched his focus to drinking with his peers. Through a book that a friend gave him, this Scripture ignited a fire within Robert, “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.” (Matt 24:42). He began to fervently read the Bible, started a fellowship in his high school, and stepped into his pastoral calling at the age of 20. Pastor Robert has 15 years of preaching, teaching bible studies, sharing Jesus in the marketplace, and organizing crusades under his belt. He is a mighty prayer warrior, who can pray all night and still be energized the next day by the supernatural grace of God! Pastor Robert is currently the Pastor of Divine Intimacy Ministries in Jinja as well as the Pastor of Arise Women Empowerment Center – Africa (AWEC). He has prayed over the property and construction on several occasions and led group intercession. Shakan Global Mission is blessed to have this man of God as a Spiritual Advisor and board member that represents the Jinja Community.
