School Supplies for Uganda Children Support Moms Too!
In Uganda, Christmas break continues through mid-February for most schools.
As Christmas gifts,110 barefooted children received shoes from Shakan Global Mission/Shakan Uganda to help prevent jiggers.
This past week we distributed notebooks to the children from our church. Parents often have to scrape up the funds for school fees, since education is not free.
What a blessing for parents to see their children walk with books and pens in hand in their new shoes!
The note-books below will be provided to older students who will be identified by the administrator of the school next door to the property.
Purchasing these notebooks also supports moms to make a living. This book binding business was started this past year by Arise Women Empowerment Center to empower women through employment.
Teenage girls miss school when there’s no money for sanitary pads. Some girls even choose to have sex in exchange for pads.
The administrator of the school next door will also identify the girls with the most need for sanitary pads.
$3 PROVIDES a TEENAGE GIRL SUPPLIES FOR 3 MONTHS.
Providing sanitary napkins to these girls,
EMPOWERS with DIGNITY.
In the future, we would like to provide reusable sanitary pads made by local seamstresses to provide jobs and reach more girls in the long term.
