Prayer Mountain Retreat In Kampala

This last week, the Shakan Mission Uganda team (Hannah, Nicodemus, and Rosie) and the Director of Arise Women Empowerment Center (Mariam) spent 5 days praying at the World Trumpet Prayer Mountain.

They had the honor of meeting with Robert Katende, voted by the national newspaper (New Vision), to be the most influential man in Uganda.

Robert became well known as the chess coach of a 13 year old girl from Kampala who rose from the slums to become a chess champion.  The Disney movie, “Queen of Katwe” captures this moving drama of how Robert empowered Phiona and other kids to beat all odds through chess.

Robert is the Director of Sports Outreach Ministry Chess Academy.  He has several ministries in Uganda and Africa, using principles from chess to train children and adults to overcome insurmountable obstacles and become Christian leaders.

We are excited that he accepted our invitation to come to Jinja to discuss how the Chess Academy can be incorporated into the local community. He will also visit the Shakan Global Mission Center and Guest House in construction.
