Testimonies

Each of the children sponsored and their families have a story of suffering. Since the program has been launched two months ago, there have been many testimonies of the RESURRECTION HOPE and LOVE of JESUS.

Here is one of the highlights —

HOPE …
GIVES A NEW IDENTITY in CHRIST

Ismael Embraces a New Name
Ismael came highly recommended from the Headmistress of the school since he has been the top student of his class since he started school.  He is now 14 years old.

Ismael was born into a Muslim family. His father abandoned him when he was 3 years old.  His mother was recently diagnosed with uterine cancer, and is unable to work.  Thus, Ismael was not able to continue his education…until he received a sponsorship through Shakan.

After Ismael started school, he came back to the Shakan Mission Center Office and informed the Ugandan staff (Hannah and Nicodemus), “MY NAME IS NO LONGER ISMAEL, BUT ISAAC! I have given my life to Christ. I am willing to love Jesus and follow him because Jesus remembered me.”  Wow!

Ismael’s Mother’s Sacrificial Gratitude
Ismael’s mom expressed her deepfelt gratitude for her gifted son to be able to continue his education with a sacrificial walk to the Shakan Mission Center office. A typical 25-minute walk took her 2 hours due to the immense pain she was experiencing.

During her brief stay, she expressed gratitude to all the people in Uganda and the USA involved in supporting her son.  The staff drove her home with overflowing emotions.

Ismael wrote in his profile, “I want to be a doctor and treat my community in a caring way”

Child Sponsorship provides much more than an education, but HOPE and GRATITUDE with eternal impact.

TRUTH CENTERED TRANSFORMATION DISCIPLESHIP

Over 20 local pastors and leaders participated in an overview of Truth Centered Transformation (TCT).

Topics included how acts of love can help overcome the poverty mindset, being Salt and Light in the community, Kingdom of God math multiplication, and more.

TCT has impacted over 1,000 communities in Asia and Africa in rising above poverty. It is our prayer that communities in Jinja will follow the biblical principles taught in TCT and rise above poverty as well.  The Shakan Mission Uganda Program Coordinator is working with leaders in the community to encourage adopting this discipleship program in their churches.
